Core Values
We value The Wordof God - As Christ's followers we endeavor to know Him more deeply by studying and living according to His Word. As the book of Ezra writes about the prophet... "For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach His statues and rules in Israel." (Ezra 7:10) Therefore, we are a church that studies the whole of scripture chapter by chapter and book by book.
We value Relationships - therefore we encourage every individual to connect both in our Sunday service (prayer, sharing w/one another at our tables) as well as during the week (one on one, small groups, mid-week activities and service projects) to both love and serve our neighbors and to live out in "community" our love and service to one another. We also value in our relationships honesty and integrity towards one another and a desire to first and foremost... bring honor and glory to Jesus' name in all we say and do.
We value Reaching People - so we purpose to invite our co-workers, neighbors, family and friends to first know Jesus through His saving grace and love for them... second to connect them to a sound and biblical church that meets their needs. We also purpose many of our events and activities to reach non-believers through care giving and allowing them to see God's love between Christians and to bring them into a place of love and belonging. Our events and outreaches look to their needs and cares.
We value Growing & EquippingLeaders - therefore we seek to grow every believer towards their callings and gifting's through regular opportunities to study God's Word, pray and attend worship events (i.e.Threshold). Also, leadership development and ministry training weekly through one on one discipleship, Men's and Women's groups and through our monthly M25 training. Those led to devote themselves full-time to the Lord's service... eventually enter the MSP (Ministerial Study Program) offered through our affiliation with the C&MA.
We value accomplishing God'sMission - the "church" is a people on mission offering each one of us our time, talent and treasures toward the fulfillment of local and global outreach. We believe all mature believers should both "go" and "send" towards the mission. Acts 1:8... describes the movement we are joined to along with the first disciples. There we are called to go into our... Jerusalem (Bakersfield), Judea & Samaria (Nearby Cross-Culture) and the ends of the earth (all Nations).
We value Participation - where "every member is a minister" and where every person seeks to be involved in finding & developing the use of their individual gifts and love for the benefit of others both inward (our church) and outward (reaching lost and hurting people). We believe all participate in "being the church" verses simply "going to church" each Sunday.
We value Servant Leadership - With our participation and service toward one another in the use of our gifts (1 Cor.12:7)... we value servant style leadership (Phil.2). With God's help... we at The Way choose to honor one another and others more highly then we do ourselves, not "lording over" or seeking to control others as we lead (Matt.20:26). We desire to lead not as the world does... but to lead others as Christ led with humility, meekness and with kindness & gentleness (1 Pet.5:1-4).
